I'm a believer...
So today started off bad. I woke up and played some poker before work, which I NEVER do. That table selection was outstanding... the results not so much. I lost just over 2 buyins from a combination of my opponents hitting everything for 30 mins... e.g. http://www.pokerhand.org/?3115493 and http://www.pokerhand.org/?3115498. Oh yeah, I decided to stack off and give away another 3/4 of a buyin when I couldn't fold my 3bet JJ on a 25Q board.
Came home from worked, watched the new Vitalmyth video on cardrunners (very very good), and decided to play some poker. I had seen another vid earlier in the week talking about the praises of 6Max PLH. I decide to give it a shot, and.. WOW. I know its variance and stupid small sample (87 hands) but man, people play horrible in PLH. How bad? First hand .. villain was like 85/40 so I tried to get it in as fast as I could. A few mins later I had fun vs a villain who didn't have a concept of first level thinking. All in all, up 3 1/3rd buyins in like 15-20 mins.
I'll have to play some more of this....

What a month at poker..
Talk about highs and lows! I started this month after my 50NL shot.. proceeding to get the doom switch in full force. We're talking 2700 hands and 8 buyins lost. Fast forward two weeks and i've been on a massive heater.. up 10+ buyins so overall we're looking at +2 for the month. 4 buyins or so away from another 50NL shot.
In other news it looks like I'll be taking part in my first major prop bet. Willie and I are trying to come up with a good weight loss prop bet. Right now we figure we're looking at % of weight lost, but not sure where we want to go. That being said, I'm really serious about doing this. For health reasons and just to feel better about myself reasons.
Expect more regular updates soon, need to finish my Iron Man (bronze, but whatever) in the next few days.
In other news it looks like I'll be taking part in my first major prop bet. Willie and I are trying to come up with a good weight loss prop bet. I missed 25NL.. yeah thats it....
Well, my triumphant return to 50NL is yet to arrive as the doom switch was turned on. Typical things like KK vs AA, AA losing to sets, and this -> http://www.pokerhand.org/?2942709. No big deal, turned out to be about 3.5 buyins I'm down, so I'm looking at about 4-6 more buyins at 25NL to move back.
In live game notes I tried out for the Heartland Poker Tour at Majestic yesterday. Didn't go so well, Flopped top 2 on a 789 flop, Q hit turn and opponent hit top 2. I didn't go broke, but I lose well over half my stack. Acompany that with being card dead for the next 45 mins and I had no shot. I played some 1-2 while I was waiting to see if my friend Jason made it (He did after I left, grats!) but nothing too eventful happened, lost about $40.

Big Saturday
So much going on. I'm seeing the Dark Knight in a little bit and I'm absolutely pumped to see it. Two MMA events tonight, UFC Fight Night Live, and the much bigger event Affliction Banned. While I'm looking forward to those, I heard some great news that UFC 90 will be in Chicago in October!! No doubt it will be a blast and I'm going for sure! Of course I'm NOT looking forward to working tonight, hopefully just Midnight to 1am or so.. but might be till after 8AM.
Poker wise, I was at my goal earlier today but I slipped back to about 1 buyin out. I don't think i've played all that great, but I have had some good hands, and some interesting things happen. I had two hands that I went to raise on the flop, only to later realize my numberlock was off on the keyboard so I couldn't type in what I wanted. Preparing to move back to 50NL.
I am just about 3bi at 25NL shy of taking a shot at 50NL. This has been quite a long journey for me, in fact this won't be the first move to 50NL, not even the first return attempt.
In the years past I played the bonus whore to perfection, raking up lots of money and moving quickly from 25NL to 100NL. Once the UIGEA hit I was pretty much forced to move to FTP as I had most of my money at Doyle's Room. As it turns out, I wasn't very good at poker. I lost most of my 100NL BR quickly, dropping me to 50NL, 25NL, and what should have been 10NL (but I was too stubborn). I took a few months off disgusted, then starting playing again, telling myself if I wanted to move up I had to do it the old fashioned way. No more deposits, I got myself busto and I could get myself out. Things were going very well for a while, in fact I was well into the 50NL bankroll requirements. I was running extremely well and even had my sights set on moving back to 100NL. Of course you can guess what happens here, I start getting killed. I figure I'm just running bad, but upon review I noticed that nope, I still play pretty bad. Back to 25NL... nearing busto.
I had been a member of Cardrunners, but I hadn't really put in the time to study, post, watch videos, etc. I really want to be a better poker player, but I realize that just going through the motions won't get me anywhere. While I'm just starting to recently post more in the CR forums, I can say going through the SSNL series by Brystmar completely changed my game around. Add the videos by Verneer and I finally feel confident in my play. I have done a small bit of review and sweat sessions with Homerow, which I think has helped a bunch too just to throw some ideas and questions off someone.
I still have some concerns that this may just be a hot streak that I might not be playing that well, but I really feel I have turned my game around. I still have the occasional lapse of trying to force people out of pots when I know I can't, but I have been doing my best to stay out of tough situations. I haven't played any since I got back from Vegas, but I was exhausted Sunday, worked 14 hrs yesterday, and just way too tired to play today, however I have been reviewing lots of articles and studying up.
My plan (based on making 3bi in the next week) will be to play 25NL through the end of this week to get back into 2 weeks off of online poker, then take my shot again at 50NL. Will keep posted on my results!

Starting a Blog
Starting a blog for the hell of it, will be something fun to do and something to keep me accountable to various things in my life. Expect to see things about poker, my diet/exercise, work, or anything else that I feel like talking about.
That being said, I just got back from vacation yesterday in Vegas. I had a bunch of fun playing poker, but I am completely exhausted. Gonna go try and beat GTA IV, then sleep. First day back at work tomorrow.
